I am interested in the evolution and systematics of tortoise leaf beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Cassidinae). Currently, I am working on the biology and phylogeny of the tribe Ischyrosonychini. I am also interested in their distribution, host plant interactions, and the environmental factors which affect their biology. Since Ischyrosonychini is distributed from North America to South America, I have conducted field studies and specimen collections in U.S.A.-Kansas (2010-present), Peru (Madre de Dios (2010), U.S.A.-Fort Lauderdale, FL, Nicaragua-Domitila (2011, NSF), and Mexico: Chamela Field Station (2011, NSF).
