Children make their way through dense aquatic plants to the waters of the Baker Wetlands.

Camp participants who wanted to get a close look at aquatic insects took nets to the water.

Nets pulled across the muddy water revealed insects and plants from below the surface.

Camp instructors were on hand to help identify animals and plants.

The Baker Wetlands were teeming with tiny plants.

Sometimes it's necessary to get a little mud in your shoes in the name of science.

Insects found at the Deer Creek site were sifted from the creek in small baskets.

The group found a variety of insects as well as crayfish at Deer Creek.

In addition to identifying insects and plants, campers made notes about water quality and conditions.

Many campers went home muddy, but they didn't seem to mind.
