Field School: 1969

By 1969, Patricia O’Brien at KSU had developed a strong research interest in the Steed-Kisker phase while Al Johnson maintained his desire to collect additional survey and excavation data on the Kansas City Hopewell. Excavations in 1969 focused on the Desiter (23PL2), Young (23PL4), Iatan (23PL53) and 23PL65 sites, all Kansas City Hopewell occupations located in Platte County, Missouri. Pat O’Brien worked at 23PL13, the type-site of the Steed-Kisker phase. With each director having different research interests, all Kansas City Hopewell collections excavated through the KUFS efforts were curated at KU while all of the Steed-Kisker materials went to KSU. The accompanying guides are arranged by site. Artifacts shown are associated with the Steed-Kisker phase.
