The American Southwest includes regions within the states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Colorado and the states of Sonora and Chihuahua in northern Mexico. This region has been occupied for over 15,000 years by successive prehistoric cultural traditions, including both hunter-gatherers and agriculturalists.
