Unmanned Aerial Systems, more commonly referred to as drones, have gone from specialized instruments to commonplace holiday gifts in the span of a few short years. This takeoff of technology impacts the economic and societal realms and touches on topics such as privacy, economic feasibility, safety, and communication. Equally as important, but rarely mentioned, is the current and future impact of drones on the sciences. KU Geography Ph.D. student James Coll will discuss the importance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and how drones are poised to revolutionize the GIS field and how we view the world.
