Science Kit Distribution

Science Kit Distribution

Sat., May 8
12:00 - 4:00 PM
KU Natural History Museum

On May 8th, we will be distributing a limited number of free Science Kits that go along with our Pop Up Science program! Each kit will contain all the materials you need for the science activity, plus a copy of our activity PDF, which will also be available online. Information on how you can pick up a kit for your household is below. More info can be found at https://biodiversity.ku.edu/science-kits.

Each kit will provide materials for:

Pop Up Science – Symmetry in the Natural World! The video premieres on Facebook on Sat., May 15 at 10am

Our staff will be following COVID-19 recommended protocols, including wearing masks. We ask that participants picking up kits also follow protocols, including wearing masks when picking up kits. Households can get up to 2 kits total. We have drive-up and walk-up options available:

Drive-up option:
Museum staff will direct you to pull your car up to a designated spot on Jayhawk Boulevard in front of the north entrance of the museum (closest to the KU Memorial Union). Then, they’ll give you a kit containing all materials needed for the designated program(s). Our program videos remain online too, so if you can't follow along on the day of the event, you can still do science with us when it's convenient for your young scientist!

Walk-up option:
You can walk up to the museum to pick up a kit, too! Museum staff will direct you to the pick up location while maintaining a 6-foot distance between you and others.

A few kits have been set aside for individuals that are unable to collect kits at the museum. To request one of these kits be mailed to you, contact Colleen MacGilvray (macgilvrc@ku.edu) by 5pm on Wednesday, May 5.

If you come between 1-4pm, you can get both the Pop Up Science kit from outside the KUNHM *and* our evolutionary tree kit from the Spencer Museum of Art during their Days of Creativity event! Our museums are only two minutes apart, so be sure to double your fun science learning by taking advantage of this unique opportunity.
