Virtual school programs are available for elementary and middle school classes: Exploring Evolution and Exploring Earth: Rocks and Fossils.
Format and Requirements
Virtual programs are live-streamed experiences, led by a museum educator who will conduct demonstrations and faciliate hands-on activities with your class. Materials will be provided. We can present the program to your classroom, with you and your students connecting from home, or a combination of both. Each program runs an hour.
Platform: Virtual programs will use Zoom. You will receive a secure Zoom link invitation with password for your program. We may able to work with your group using another platform/service, please include this information on the inquiry webform. Museum staff can arrange a test call the week before your program to check that everything works.
Technical requirements: internet access and a display device in your classroom; students will need internet access and a device if connecting from home.
Hands-on materials: Program activity materials (one set per student) will be mailed to your school in advance for you to distribute to your students.
There is no cost for KU Natural History Museum virtual school programs for the 2020-2021 school year.
We only offer virtual school programs for the 2020-2021 school year.
School programs are developed and taught by museum education professionals with science backgrounds and many years of experience teaching in informal learning environments.
Complete a Virtual School Program Inquiry webform, and a member of museum staff will contact you to confirm. Alternatively, you can call Public Education at 785.864.4173. Bookings must be made at least three weeks in advance. Any virtual program can be booked for Monday through Friday during the school year (dependent on instructor availability).
Virtual school programs have a miniumum of 5 students, and can accommodate one class (approximately 30 to 35 students).
Virtual elementary programs can be booked for groups with students in grades 1 through 5, and middle school programs can be booked for groups of students within grades 6 through 8.
