Science On Tap - Origin: A Genetic History of the Americas with Dr. Jennifer Raff

Wednesday, April 20
7:30pm-8:30pm
Free State Brewery, 636 Massachusetts St., Lawrence

Join us at Free State Brewery for a special Science On Tap on April 20! Scientific understanding of the peopling of the Americas is in a state of intensive development, as new discoveries (particularly from genetics) are being made at a rapid pace. Skeletal remains, cultural artifacts and ancient DNA have sparked debates about which of several origin stories best explains available evidence. Additional conflict stems from a tragic scientific legacy of ignoring and exploiting Indigenous peoples. KU anthropologist, geneticist and author of Origin: A Genetic History of the Americas, Dr. Jennifer Raff, offers her take on the state of this fascinating research field. This will be in-person at Free State Brewery, so come early for dinner or just join us for the presentation, followed by a Q&A. The Raven Book Store will have copies of Dr. Raff’s best-selling book for purchase at the event.
