Book Your Experience

The KU Natural History Museum offers a variety of adult programs and tours at the museum. Programs must be booked at least two (2) weeks in advance. Payment is due at least three (3) business days in advance of program. There are no refunds. Museum Tours

Learn about some of the most iconic exhibits and specimens at the KU Natural History Museum from our Visitor Experience staff.

Group Size: Up to 20 participants
Availability: Tuesday through Saturday 10-4 p.m.
                     Sunday from 1-3 p.m.

In this introductory tour, you will learn about the history of the KU Natural History Museum and the iconic Panorama exhibit, along with other 4th floor exhibits such as Comanche, the Grotesques, and the 45-foot-long mosasaur. Plus, we'll give you suggestions on what not to miss in the galleries as you explore the rest of the museum on your own.

Cost: $50
Duration: 30 minutes
Mobility Requirements: Walking is involved on the 4th floor. An elevator is available to travel between floors after the tour, along with ramps, and an available wheelchair to borrow.

This fast-paced tour highlights the museum's 3rd floor exhibits including the Panorama, Comanche, and the Bunker Mosasaur, plus features other exhibit favorites, including the live beehive, famous Triceratops skull, and more. Our tour guides will work with your group to point out exhibits based on your interest. After the tour, feel free to explore the rest of the museum on your own.

Duration: 60 minutes
Mobility Requirements: We will be moving between all four floors of the museum. An elevator is available to travel between floors, along with ramps, and an available wheelchair to borrow.

Educational Tours

Dive deeper into our exhibits with an educational tour. Join one of our educators as they use select parts of the museum and hands-on demonstrations to discuss specific themes.

Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: $100 per group
Group Size: Up to 20 participants
Availability: Programs are offered Tuesday–Friday year-round, with the following seasonal hours:

  • January-February: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • March-May: 2-4 p.m.
  • June-September: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • October-November: 2-4 p.m.
  • December: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Discover your inner fox, fish, fungus, and more as we explore what humans have in common with other living things and how we are related. 

Mobility requirements: This tour involves walking 3 sets of stairs, 2 sets between the first and second stop, and 1 set before the last stop. Total walking distance 0.12 miles (0.19 km).

We all know what Kansas looks like…or do we? Explore our state symbols, the historic “Bone Wars” of the late 1800s, and more as we dive into some of the lesser-known facts behind Kansas icons and stories.

Mobility requirements: This tour involves walking 6 sets of stairs: 2 sets up at the beginning of the tour, 1 set down, 2 sets down, and 1 set up (elevator available). Total walking distance: 0.16 miles (0.25 km).

Team Building

Bring your team to the museum to promote teamwork and camaraderie. Team building activities divide participants into groups that work together to complete challenges.

Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: $100 per group
Group Size: Up to 20 participants
Availability: Programs are offered Tuesday–Friday year-round, with the following seasonal hours:

  • January-February: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • March-May: 2-4 p.m.
  • June-September: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • October-November: 2-4 p.m.
  • December: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

We need your help to recover the keys to our field truck! Teams of 2 to 5 players will solve a series of puzzles using exhibits in our 6th floor gallery to save the day. 

Difficulty Rating: Easy
Mobility requirements: 2 sets of stairs from the main museum entrance to the gallery (elevator available); 2 puzzles require at least one team member to work at floor level.

Historical fossil records have gone missing, and it’s up to you to find them! Teams of 2 to 5 players will solve a series of puzzles using exhibits in our 3rd floor gallery to find the lost data.

Difficulty Rating: Medium
Mobility requirements: 1 set of stairs from the main museum entrance to the gallery (elevator available); 2 puzzles require at least one team member to work at floor level.

Explore exhibits across the museum in small teams (2 to 5 players) while completing puzzles and solving the mystery! All along the way, you’ll learn about important ideas in biology and evolution

Difficulty Rating: Hard
Mobility Requirements: 2 sets of stairs twice and 1 set of stairs twice to move between galleries (elevator available); 2 puzzles require at least one team member to work at floor level.
