Explore the life of the planet at the KU Natural History Museum with four floors of fascinating exhibits, from minute microbes to our 45-foot-long mosasaur, the famous Panorama and much more.  We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am - 5pm and Sunday, 12pm - 4pm. While there is no cost, RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Walk-up visitors without an appointment will be scheduled for the next open appointment, or may be asked to visit another day if reservations are full. Please also note our Visitor Guidelines, which include wearing masks indoors for all people above the age of 2, including for those who are vaccinated. Open Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm and Sunday, 12pm - 4pm. 

Reserve a time to visit by using our booking calendar. Click on the day you'd like to come and choose a time to visit for up to 14 people in your group. You'll be sent a confirmation email and tickets.

We are requiring reservations to safely limit the capacity of our galleries.  Advanced reservations are strongly encouraged. NOTE: If you visit the museum without a reservation, our staff will assist you in making a reservation for the next available admission time, however, you may be asked to visit another day if reservations are full. We cannot guarantee admission will be the same day. Reservations can be made up to one month in advance. 

Masks are required by all people over the age of two in all indoor spaces at KU, including the KU Natural History Museum. If you don't have a mask, they are available for free at our Visitor Services desk on the 4th (main) floor. 

Admission to the KU Natural History Museum is free, but upon reservation checkout, visitors will have the opportunity to make a donation to support our museum operations. Our suggested contribution is $7 for adults and $4 for children. 

Confirmation of your reservation and your admission tickets will be emailed to you, or they can be picked up at our Visitor Services Desk upon entry. If you do not receive a confirmation, please check your 'spam' email folder. You can also call us at 785-864-4450. 

If you are unable to visit the day of your reservation, please contact Visitor Services at or phone 785-864-4450 to cancel.  This will allow us to offer your time slot to other patrons.  Thank you.

Parking for museum visitors is available in the Mississippi Street parking garage at 1218 Mississippi St.. An hourly charge applies. Visit our Parking Information page for details. Several Lawrence buses stop at the KU Memorial Union, next door to the museum.

Please arrive by your scheduled time. Please use the main staircase to enter the museum and check in at the Visitor Services Desk. An accessible entrance is to the right of the main entrance. If using the accessible entrance, please take the elevator to the 4th (main) floor and check in at the Visitor Services Desk before exploring our galleries. 


  • Masks are required at all times in indoor spaces at the museum for all people above the age of 2, including those who are fully vaccinated. This is in keeping with KU protocol, as well as recommendations from the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department and CDC. 
  • Visitors should avoid crowding in hallways and at exhibits, maintaining 6 feet of social distancing from those not in your group. 
  • Hand sanitizer stations can be found throughout the museum's galleries. 
  • Frequently touched surfaces are regularly sanitized by staff.
