Lieberman has investigated several topics in this area.  Most recently, In work led by Brian Fields, we investigated the role of supernovae in the end Devonian extinctions.  View a CNN video on this supernova mass extinction for additional information on this topic.

In collaboration with Adrian Melott and other scientists, and with support from NASA, Lieberman conducted research investigating the nature of the late Ordovician mass extinction and the extent to which it may have been precipitated by a Gamma Ray Burst.
