About KU Herpetology
KU Herpetology is dedicated to investigating evolutionary biology of amphibian and reptile biodiversity. Our group includes three full-time personnel and numerous graduate and undergraduate students — all conducting dozens of research projects.
We conduct field expeditions each year to destinations across Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and the West Indies.
We are a premier international destination for research and training. Current students, postdocs, visiting scholars, and curators include representatives from at least four countries. The graduate program typically includes a ten or more full-time students. KU Herpetology alumni hold positions at research universities, museums, zoos, and in government.
We are home to the fourth largest collection of preserved amphibian and reptile research specimens in the world. Our collection and specimen associated data is accessed many tens of thousands of times each year via GBIF, on-site visits, loans of physical specimens, or genetic samples.
